RNS Member Awards

RNS Awards Guidelines
Respiratory Nursing Society awards may be presented annually.
The following awards to be considered on an annual basis:
Leadership, Founders, Clinical Practice, and Research

Purpose of the Awards: The purpose of these awards is to recognize an outstanding RNS member whose contribution to the organization has fulfilled the purpose and goals of RNS.

Award recipients are selected according to the following criteria:

Leadership Award Criteria

  • Is an active member of the Respiratory Nursing Society
  • Receives peer recognition, endorsement and support
  • Has demonstrated leadership within the RNS organization
  • Has enhanced the image of nursing and RNS
  • Has participated in the development of leaders within RNS

Founders Award Criteria

  • Is an active member of the Respiratory Nursing Society
  • Receives peer recognition, endorsement and support
  • Has demonstrated a commitment to RNS in development of the organization as a whole or through the development of Chapters within RNS
  • Has enhanced the image of nursing and RNS
  • Has been instrumental in maintaining the organization’s viability and visibility in nursing
  • Was a founding member of the organization in its original development or has been instrumental in changing RNS to keep it functioning in an ever-changing environment.

Clinical Practice Award Criteria

  • Is an active member of the Respiratory Nursing Society
  • Receives peer recognition, endorsement and support
  • Has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the clinical practice arena with respiratory patients
  • Has enhanced the image of nursing and RNS
  • Has participated in the development of clinical practice leader in the work environment

Research Award Criteria

  • Is an active member of the Respiratory Nursing Society
  • Receives peer recognition, endorsement and support
  • Has performed research in the arena of respiratory/pulmonary nursing.
  • Has enhanced the image of nursing and RNS
  • Has participated in the development of nursing research within their institution or practice environment
  • Has disseminated research to enhance the care of respiratory patients.

Awards are considered utilizing the following process:

Nominations

  • Nominations are invited from any member of RNS
  • Invitations will be publicized in the RNS newsletter Perspectives in Respiratory Nursing and on the RNS
  • website
  • A standard nomination form is available and includes sections to list supporting data
  • Nominating member should indicate how the nominee has meet the Award Criteria

Selection

  • A selection committee will consist of at least 3 members of RNS
  • The selection committee will review nominations, rate candidates and forward names for awards to the RNS Board
  • The RNS Board will make the final decision

Notification

  • The recipient will be notified by letter from the RNS President prior to public release of information
  • The name of the recipient for an award will be published in Perspectives in Respiratory Nursing and on the RNS website

Presentation

  • Presentation of the Award will be made at the annual Business Meeting held during the RNS Educational Conference
